The other morning I was up at "sparrows fart" and on the road...........
my reward was the sunrise.........
there was a hint it was going to be lovely...........
5 mins later...............it was trying to burst thru......
another 5 minutes later...........
this was to the right.........the colours are not truly captured but it is a stunning light that only last for a short time..........
5 mins later again.........up behind the clouds.........the rays all shining out........
random rose flowering in my garden............
I love nature..........except for the dust storm on Thursday night..........I went away Friday morning so still to clean up.........it was so thick the dust is deep my friends...........bring on some more rain......
All Creatures of Our God and King is an English translation of a medieval poem. The original poem Canticle of the Sun by Francis of Assisi was written in Latin around 1225. It was translated by William H. Draper and first published in 1919.
This beautifully worded hymn poetically describes all of Creation praising God. I'm not sure why this song makes me think of Thanksgiving, but I'm not alone in labeling it so. I imagine it is the image of creation praising Him during this season when nature is so strongly the focus with the harvesting of crops and the changing colors of leaves. And for those who might not know, Alleluia (or Hallelujah) means "Praise the Lord"
.
Let's bring our thanks to God for all He has created as we join with all of Creation in praising our Creator and Redeemer.

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
About Jesus in Revelation 5:12 saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.
*While the Holy Spirit is God, nowhere in Scripture does it tell us to praise or worship Him. The Holy Spirit's function is to glorify Christ (as Christ's role is to reveal the Father and carry out His plans).
Jesus said in John 16:13-14 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.
It is not a question or the Holy Spirit's worthiness, but rather what we are instructed to do. While we are not instructed to praise Him, we are instructed to be filled with the Spirit (Eph. 5:18), to follow His leading (ex. Acts 11:12), not to quench Him (1 Thess. 5:19), and not to grieve Him (Eph. 4:30).
The song of thanksgiving for today is less conventional, but a lot of fun. It is basically the same idea as the hymn Count Your Blessings. It encourages you to be thankful for something in your life no matter what your circumstances are. Sometimes you just have to identify all the ways that God has blessed you "one by one" to help you "see what God has done." If you are going through a difficult time and don't know what to be thankful for, start by reading a passage like Ephesians 1:3-14 and thanking God for all of the spiritual blessings He has given us in Christ. When you meditate on the fact that someone died for you to have eternal life and many other blessings besides, it is hard to remain ungrateful.
Thank God For Something
by Jon Steingard, Seth Mosley, and Michael Farren
Verse 1: Mama always said to me the very best medicine is gratitude. It's not what you don't have, but what you do. I must admit that I forget that life's a gift. Hey mama, gonna change my attitude.
Colossians 3:15-16 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 in everything give thanks; for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

I have always loved the hymn For the Beauty Of the Earth. We sang it at my childhood church. As a nature lover, it definitely spoke to me. However, it goes beyond praising and thanking God for the beauty of His creation. It also expresses gratitude for the other people God has brought into our lives and the great gift of Jesus our Savior.
We sang a different arrangement of For the Beauty Of the Earth in my high school's choir (yes, in a public school and only about 20 years ago). I didn't know if I would be able to find that arrangement online because I didn't even know the arranger, but I was able to quickly find a video of the arrangement by John Rutter. Apparently, it is very popular.
If you are looking for a version to play in a more modern worship service, this one is great.
Or if you just want to relax to a piano arrangement, Chris Rice is amazing.
However you choose to listen to this hymn, this is definitely one to add to your Thanksgiving playlist. The overall theme of this song seems to be these two verses:
James 1:17Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
Hebrews 13:15 Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.
For The Beauty of The Earth
by Folliott Sanford Pierpoint, 1864
Verse 1: For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies,
Psalm 8:1 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth, who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
for the love which from our birth over and around us lies.
Psalm 33:5 He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord.
Psalm 32:10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him.
Refrain: Lord of all*, to Thee we raise this, our hymn of grateful praise.
Hebrews 13:15 Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.
Psalm 147:7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; Sing praises to our God on the lyre,
Verse 2: For the wonder of each hour of the day and of the night,
2 Peter 3:8 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
hill and vale and tree and flower, sun and moon and stars of light,
Luke 12:27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.
Psalm 148:3 Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all stars of light!
Verse 3: For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild,
2 Thessalonians 1:3 We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater;
Verse 4: For yourself, best gift divine, to the world so freely given,
Jesus said in John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
agent of God's grand design: peace on earth and joy in heaven.
Ephesians 3:11 This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord,
1 John 4:14 We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.
The angels praised Jesus birth saying in Luke 2:13-14 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.
* Pierpoint wrote this line as "Christ, our God, to Thee we raise this our sacrifice of praise." There are now many variations of this line changing "Christ, our God" to "Lord of all" or "Christ, our Lord" and "our sacrifice of praise" to "our hymn of grateful praise." All of these lines are great with the original text pointing more toward Hebrews 13:15 and the latter toward Psalm 50:23.
For praise and worship songs, there are few that display thankfulness more than Chris Tomlin's Forever. In fact, I'm sure this song will be sung in many churches during this season of Thanksgiving. And the song definitely reflects many of the psalms of thanksgiving in Scripture.

Everyone loves the Christmas holiday season, but more and more we rush past Thanksgiving. We may no longer be an agrarian society that focuses on seasons as they relate to farming, but we do see reminders of the Lord's provision through harvest all around us. We see it in the plentiful displays at a farmer's market or grocery store. We see it in the yields of our or neighbors' gardens. We see it in the apple orchards and pumpkin fields that people visit for modern "agri-tainment." At my church when I was a child, we would have a food drive on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. People would bring non-perishable food items chosen from their pantry or selected at the grocery store and set them in the front of the church to be given to those in need. It was our "firstfruits offering" to the Lord. It was our thanksgiving offering for what He supplied and we gave from that supply in faith that he would continue to provide for us. My church called that food drive "Harvest Home." Harvest Home was the ancient English harvest feast where they would celebrate the harvest. Of course, the original feast was pagan but a true harvest feast should be a celebration of the Creator who provides sustenance for us. That is why "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come" is my quintessential Thanksgiving song. I continue to "raise the song of harvest home" each year.
I plan to study Thanksgiving hymns and songs biweekly until this Thanksgiving. I hope they remind you of all that you have to be thankful for.
Come, Ye Thankful People, Come
by Henry Alford (1844)
Verse 1: Come, ye thankful people, come, Raise the song of harvest home;
Psalm 100:4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
All is safely gathered in, Ere the winter storms begin.
Deuteronomy 11:13-15 "It shall come about, if you listen obediently to my commandments which I am commanding you today, to love the Lord your God and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul, that He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain, that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil. He will give grass in your fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied."
Exodus 34:22 You shall celebrate the Feast of Weeks, that is, the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year.
God our Maker doth provide For our wants to be supplied;
Colossians 1:19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Come to Gods own temple, come, Raise the song of harvest home.
Psalm 95:2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
Psalm 116:17 To You I shall offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and call upon the name of the Lord.
Verse 2: All the world is Gods own field, Fruit unto His praise to yield; Wheat and tares together sown Unto joy or sorrow grown. First the blade and then the ear, Then the full corn shall appear; Lord of harvest, grant that we Wholesome grain and pure may be.
Matthew 13:24-29 Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away. But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became evident also. The slaves of the landowner came and said to him, Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares? And he said to them, An enemy has done this! The slaves *said to him, Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up? But he *said, No; for while you are gathering up the tares, you may uproot the wheat with them. Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, First gather up the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn.
Verse 3: For the Lord our God shall come, And shall take His harvest home; From His field shall in that day All offenses purge away, Giving angels charge at last In the fire the tares to cast; But the fruitful ears to store In His garner [storehouse] evermore.
Matthew 13:36-43 Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field. And He said, The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels. So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
Verse 4: Even so, Lord, quickly come, Bring Thy final harvest home;
Revelation 22:20 (KJV) He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
Gather Thou Thy people in, Free from sorrow, free from sin,
1 Corinthians 15:22-23 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
There, forever purified, In Thy garner [storehouse] to abide;
Revelation 22:3-5 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
Come, with all Thine angels come, Raise the glorious harvest home.
Matthew 16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds.
(another wild video by me trying to video and feed sheep all at once)

My reward for walking yesterday afternoon..........
nature is AMAZING.........
one day after the rain there are little green shoots in the paddocks.........
I feel so helpless when I see homeless people on the street. Their needs are very apparent and yet greater than what I am capable of helping. Homeless care packages or "blessing bags" are one way I have used to help the homeless in a small way. It helps to provide for some of their needs. They are a way to say "I see you and I see your needs and I care." Our God is a God who "give food to the hungry" (Psalm 146:7) and we can be a part of that.
Blessing Bags Contents:
Many people have lots of ideas for what to put in bags for the homeless. Here is what I put in mine:
a pair of socks
deodorant
lotion
multi-purpose wipes
band-aids
chapstick
tissues
gum
cracker packs
applesauce (pouches are great so they don't need spoons)
granola bars (don't get anything too hard in case they have dental problems)
beef jerky or beef sticks
Here are some other ideas that I loved:
hat, gloves, or scarfs in the winter
suntan lotion in the summer
bottles of water or even a water bottle that has a filter so they can refill it
a drawstring backpack
pamphlets or contact information for local homeless ministries
I also included some gospel tracts to let them know why we care about them - because they are
You can buy packs of 10 ready-made blessing bags from an organization called Red Bag at Amazon. They put their items in a waterproof drawstring backpack.
Some Things To Remember About Blessing Bags
When you are buying the items for the bags, buy things that will work well for them. Don't buy them socks that are really cheap and will wear out quickly because they might discard their current socks to wear the new ones. Then if the new ones get holes in them in a few days they will only have those holey socks. It's better to buy fewer good items than many poor quality items.
As you assemble your bags remember that a homeless person doesn't have a place to keep these items so either provide a drawstring backpack or keep it small. Provide what they would need for one day. If you put too much in the bag, they might have to dump it or give it away because they can't store it until they need it.
The homeless people you come across are real people with real needs that go beyond the physical things in the bag. They especially need compassion and love. Treat them with respect. Make eye contact, smile, shake their hand, or pray with them. Ask them how you can specifically pray for them. Let them know you see them as a person of value. Treat them with the dignity you would desire if you were on the streets. Use the bags as a tool to start an interaction that will provide for their deeper emotional needs.
This is just a small temporary help. They need much more. Try to get them in touch with local homeless ministries. Find one that you like and have the information ready to share.
If you really want to help the homeless, find a favorite local homeless ministry or shelter. Volunteer your time. Ask them what their needs are and provide for them by donating money, knitting hats or scarfs, cooking meals, or organizing a coat drive. Support their ministries like the stores where they sell used items.
