Bible Verses for That Was Then, This Is Now

That Was Then, This Is Now By Josh Wilson and Ben Glover | scriptureand.blogspot.com

It is clear from the Bible that we are transformed when are saved through faith. There are three types of transformations for the believer. I like to call them the three tenses of salvation
  • Justification - All that happens the moment that a person believes the gospel. For believers, this has happened in the past (and continues to be true).
  • Sanctification - The ongoing process by which God works in us to make us more and more like Him. For believers, this is present.
  • Glorification - The final transformation when our bodies are changed and we are free of our sin nature. This is still in the future.
This song is about the transformation that takes place when we are first saved. We are made new and changed. Here is my favorite Bible passage about the transformation that takes place in believers at the moment they believe in Jesus and His death for their sins:
Ephesians 2:1-10 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

That Was Then, This Is Now

by Josh Wilson and Ben Glover

Verse 1:
We used to hide from the light.
We made friends with the night.
John 3:19-20 This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
Ephesians 5:8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light
We were headed the wrong way on a one-way track
Going nowhere fast.
God says in Isaiah 65:2 I have spread out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, Who walk in the way which is not good, following their own thoughts,
Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14 Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Verse 2:
We got used to the dark,
We thought this is who we are,
Matthew 6:23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
And we figured that we were just too far gone,
But we were wrong.
David speaking to God, in Psalm 139:11-12 If I say, Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, and the light around me will be night, Even the darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.

Pre-Chorus
Cause love came running like a river
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
And we got washed in the water
Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
Then He said you're forgiven
Luke 5:20 Seeing their faith, He said, Friend, your sins are forgiven you.
Your sins are gone.
Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Chorus:
That was then, this is now.
You're bought by the blood, saved by the Son the saints all sing about.
Acts 20:28 Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
1 Peter 1:18-19 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
That was lost, this is found.
Jesus said in the parable about the prodigal son, in Luke 15:32 But we had to celebrate and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.
Jesus said in Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
And it's time to say goodbye to the old you now.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
So go ahead, put the past in the past.
Box it up like an old photograph.
You don't have to go back,
Cause that was then and this is now.
God says in Isaiah 43:17-18 Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past. Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.
Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 4:22-24 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Verse 3:
We've been remade by grace,
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
We've all got new names,
Revelation 2:17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.
And nothing we do could ever change
What He did that day.
John 10:28-29 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Fathers hand.

Pre-Chorus
When love came running like a river
1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins
We got washed in the water
1 Corinthians 6:11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
Then He said you're forgiven
Colossians 2:13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,
And you belong.
1 Corinthians 3:23 and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God.

Chorus:
That was then, this is now.
You're bought by the blood, saved by the Son the saints all sing about.
That was lost, this is found.
And it's time to say goodbye to the old you now.
So go ahead, put the past in the past.
Box it up like an old photograph.
You don't have to go back
Cause that was then.

Bridge:
If we turn and confess every unrighteousness,
He is faithful and just to forgive.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Oh, so turn and confess every wrong and regret
And see what it means to live.
Proverbs 28:13 He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.

Chorus:
That was then, this is now.
You're bought by the blood, saved by the Son the saints all sing about.
That was lost, this is found.
And it's time to say goodbye to the old you now.
So go ahead, put the past in the past.
Box it up like an old photograph.
You don't have to go back.
Cause that was then and this is now.

Bible Verses for Blessed Be Your Name

Life always has plenty of ups and downs. The difficulty in all of it is remembering the Lord. Remembering to praise his for His blessings. Remembering to trust Him through the difficult times and praise Him even if...

Some of the these beautiful "Even If" moments are found in these verses:
After all the tragedy in Job's life, Job says in Job 13:15 Though He slay me, I will hope in HimNevertheless I will argue my ways before Him.
When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are faced with going through the fire, they say in Daniel 3:17-18 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.
After Habakkuk hears about the coming judgment on Israel, he says in Habakkuk 3:16-19 I heard and my inward parts trembled, at the sound my lips quivered. Decay enters my bones, and in my place I tremble. Because I must wait quietly for the day of distress, for the people to arise who will invade us. Though the fig tree should not blossom and there be no fruit on the vines, though the yield of the olive should fail and the fields produce no food, though the flock should be cut off from the fold and there be no cattle in the stalls, yet I will exult in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, and He has made my feet like hinds feet, and makes me walk on my high places. For the choir director, on my stringed instruments.

Blessed Be Your Name

by Matt Redman and Beth Redman

Verse 1:
Blessed be Your Name in the land that is plentiful.
Where Your streams of abundance flows, blessed be Your name.
Deuteronomy 8:10 When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you.
Deuteronomy 26:10-11 Now behold, I have brought the first of the produce of the ground which You, O Lord have given me. And you shall set it down before the Lord your God, and worship before the Lord your God; and you and the Levite and the alien who is among you shall rejoice in all the good which the Lord your God has given you and your household
Blessed be Your Name when I'm found in this desert place.
Though I walk through the wilderness, blessed Be Your name.
Habakkuk 3:17-18 Though the fig tree should not blossom and there be no fruit on the vines, though the yield of the olive should fail and the fields produce no food, though the flock should be cut off from the fold and there be no cattle in the stalls, yet I will exult in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.

Pre-Chorus:
Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise.
Deuteronomy 8:17-18 Otherwise, you may say in your heart, My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth. But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
When the darkness closes in, Lord, still I will say...
Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of deathI fear no evil, for You are with meYour rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Chorus:
Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your name.
Daniel 2:20 Daniel said, Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to Him.
Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your glorious name.
Psalm 72:18-19 Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone works wonders. And blessed be His glorious name foreverAnd may the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen, and Amen.

Verse 2:
Blessed be Your name when the sun's shining down on me.
When the world's all as it should be, blessed be Your name.
James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
Blessed be Your name on the road marked with suffering.
Though there's pain in the offering, blessed be Your name.
Psalm 42:5 Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him for the help of His presence.
Psalm 34:1 I will bless the Lord at all timesHis praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Bridge:
You give and take away. You give and take away.
My heart will choose to say, Lord, blessed be Your name.
Job 1:21 He said, Naked I came from my mothers womb, and naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken awayBlessed be the name of the Lord.

Bible Verses for Jesus Messiah

Jesus Messiah

by Chris Tomlin, Daniel Carson, Ed Cash, Jesse Reeves

Verse 1:
He became sin who knew no sin
That we might become His righteousness
2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
He humbled himself and carried the cross
About Jesus in Philippians 2:8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
John 19:17 They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.
Love so amazing, love so amazing
Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

Chorus 1:
Jesus Messiah, name above all names
Philippians 2:9-11 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Blessed Redeemer, Immanuel
Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Matthew 1:23 Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear A Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which translated means, God with us.
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from heaven
1 Timothy 1:15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.

Jesus Messiah, Lord of all
Acts 10:36 The word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ [Messiah] (He is Lord of all)

Verse 2:
His body the bread, His blood the wine
1 Corinthians 10:16 Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ?
Broken and poured out all for love
Jesus said in 1 Corinthians 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

Matthew 26:27-28 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.
The whole earth trembled and the veil was torn
Matthew 27:50-51 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.
Love so amazing, love so amazing, yeah
Ephesians 3:17-19 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

Bridge:
All our hope is in You, all our hope is in You
1 Timothy 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Savior, and of Christ Jesus, who is our hope,
Colossians 1:27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
All the glory to You, God, the light of the world
Revelation 1:5-6 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Fatherto Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
John 8:12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.

Chorus 2:
Jesus Messiah, name above all names
Ephesians 1:19-21 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
Blessed Redeemer, Immanuel
Titus 2:13-14 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

Hebrews 9:12 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from heaven
Mark 2:17 And hearing this, Jesus said to them, It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
Jesus said in Mark 10: 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.

Jesus Messiah, Lord of all
Andrew speaking to his brother Peter about Jesus, in John 1:41 He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, We have found the Messiah (which translated means Christ).
Romans 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;

Bible Verses for Death Was Arrested

The tombstone of Samuel Burr in Saint Marys, Georgia reads:
Here rests what was mortal of Samuel Burr, age 42.
In search of health far from his endeared home, Death arrested his progress on April the 2nd, 1831.Quietly he fell asleep in the Christian hope of immortality and glory forever. Oh, the vanity of man in his best estate. Traveler pause and drop a tear at a grave Of one so worthy and so deeply lamented and learn wisdom for eternity."

The inscription on this tombstone stuck with Brandon Coker for more than two years before a discussion with Adam Kersh, Heath Balltzglier, and Paul Taylor led to the writing of the song Death Was Arrested. The song turns on the idea that death doesn't arrest the progress of life (like Samuel Burr's tombstone says), but Jesus has arrested death and so a believer's death is the beginning of a new chapter. For believers, eternal life continues after we die on this earth, but it begins the moment we believe in Christ and his death for our sin (John 3:16).

Death Was Arrested

by Adam Kersh, Brandon Coker, Heath Balltzglier, and Paul Taylor

Verse 1:
Alone in my sorrow and dead in my sin,
Ephesians 2:1-3 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
Lost without hope with no place to begin,
Jesus said in Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Your love made a way to let mercy come in
Ephesians 2:4-8 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
When death was arrested and my life began.
1 Corinthians 15:54-57 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Verse 2:
Ash was redeemed only beauty remains,
Isaiah 61:3 To grant those who mourn in Zion, giving them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
My orphan heart was given a name,
Isaiah 65:15 You will leave your name for a curse to My chosen ones, And the Lord God will slay you. But My servants will be called by another name.
Revelation 2:17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.
My mourning grew quiet my feet rose to dance
Psalm 30:11-12 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, that my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.
When death was arrested and my life began
Isaiah 25:8 He will swallow up death for all time, and the Lord God will wipe tears away from all faces, and He will remove the reproach of His people from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken.

Chorus:

Oh your grace so free washes over me
Romans 5:15 But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.
You have made me new now life begins with you
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
It's your endless love pouring down on us
Jeremiah 31:3 The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.
You have made us new now life begins with you

Verse 3:
Released from my chains I'm a prisoner no more
About Jesus in Luke 4:17-19 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon ME, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.
My shame was a ransom he faithfully bore
Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 13:13 So, let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach.
He canceled my debt and he called me his friend
1 Peter 1:18-19 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
Jesus said in John 15:15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
When death was arrested and my life began
1 Corinthians 15:26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death.

Verse 4:
Our Savior displayed on a criminal's cross
Luke 23:33 When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
Darkness rejoiced as though heaven had lost
Luke 23:44-45 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour, because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
But then Jesus arose with our freedom in hand
About Jesus in Ephesians 4:8 Therefore it says, When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, and He gave gifts to men.
That's when death was arrested and my life began
That's when death was arrested and my life began
2 Timothy 1:10 but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,

Chorus:
Oh your grace so free washes over me
You have made me new now life begins with you
It's your endless love pouring down on us
You have made us new now life begins with you

Bridge:
We're free, free, forever we're free.
Galatians 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
Come join the song of all the redeemed.
Revelation 5:9-10 (KJV) And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Yes, we're free, free, forever. Amen.
Hebrews 2:14-15 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
When death was arrested and my life began.
Revelation 20:14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.

Bible Verses for Hills and Valleys

I don't know about your life, but mine has constant ups and downs.  Victorious high points followed by gut-wrenching moments where life bottoms out.  Each moment has its challenges in remembering God in it all.  This song helps put everything in perspective.

Hills and Valleys

by Tauren Wells, Chuck Butler, Jonathan Smith

Ive walked among the shadows
You wiped my tears away
Psalm 56:8 You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?
And Ive felt the pain of heartbreak
And Ive seen the brighter days
And Ive prayed prayers to heaven from my lowest place
Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
And I have held Your blessings
God, You give and take away
Job 1:20-21 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped. He said, Naked I came from my mothers womb, and naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
No matter what I have, Your grace is enough
2 Corinthians 12:9 And He has said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
No matter where I am, Im standing in Your love
Psalm 33:22  Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, according as we have hoped in You.

Chorus:
On the mountains, I will bow my life to the One who set me there
Psalm 99:9 (HCSB) Exalt the Lord our God; bow in worship at His holy mountain, for the Lord our God is holy.
In the valley, I will lift my eyes to the One who sees me there
Psalm 84:6 Passing through the valley of Baca [weeping] they make it a spring; The early rain also covers it with blessings.
When Im standing on the mountain I didnt get there on my own
Proverbs 16:9 The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.
2 Samuel 22:34 He makes my feet like hinds feet, and sets me on my high places."
When Im walking through the valley I know I am not alone
Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Youre God of the hills and valleys, hills and valleys

And I am not alone
Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Ive watched my dreams get broken
In You I hope again

On the mountains, I will bow my life to the One who set me there
In the valley, I will lift my eyes to the One who sees me there
When Im standing on the mountain I didnt get there on my own
When Im walking through the valley I know I am not alone
Youre God of the hills and valleys, hills and valleys
God of the hills and valleys
And I am not alone

Father, You give and take away
Every joy and every pain
1 Samuel 2:7-8 The Lord makes poor and rich; He brings low, He also exalts. He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with nobles, and inherit a seat of honor; For the pillars of the earth are the Lords, and He set the world on them.
Through it all, You will remain over it all

On the mountains, I will bow my life to the One who set me there
In the valley, I will lift my eyes to the One who sees me there
When Im standing on the mountain I didnt get there on my own
When Im walking through the valley I know I am not alone
Youre God of the hills and valleys, hills and valleys
God of the hills and valleys
And I am not alone

And I will choose to say
Blessed be Your name
Job 1:20-21 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped. He said, Naked I came from my mothers womb, and naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
And I am not alone
Hebrews 13:5-6  Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you, so that we confidently say, The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.  What will man do to me?

Bible Verses for Give Thanks

Give Thanks by Don Moen | scriptureand.blogspot.com

To finish our #31DaysOfThanksgiving with our final song of thanksgiving, I chose a simple, but powerful song.  You can listen to these two versions, the first sung by Janella Salvador and the second a guitar instrumental by Zeno, as you consider the verses below.

Give Thanks

by Don Moen

Give thanks with a grateful heart.

Psalm 86:12 I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and will glorify Your name forever.
Give thanks to the Holy One.
Psalm 30:4 Sing praise to the Lord, you His godly ones, and give thanks to His holy name.
Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."

And now let the weak say, "I am strong."

Wording from Joel 3:10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, I am a mighty man.
2 Corinthians 8:9-10 And He has said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christs sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
Let the poor say, "I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us."
2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.
Give thanks.
Hebrews 13:15 Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.

Hymns and Songs of Thanksgiving

For my #31DaysOfThanksgiving I have had biweekly study of hymns and songs of thanksgiving.  Here is a listing of all the songs with links to the studies.

Bible Verses for My Tribute

My Tribute (To God Be The Glory) by Andrae Crouch | scriptureand.blogspot.com

This song takes me back to my childhood of listening to Christian music and few songs offer more power thanks to the Lord for all He has done for us.

My Tribute

by Andra Crouch

How can I say thanks for the things
You have done for me?
Things so undeserved yet you gave
To prove your love for me.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
The voices of a million angels
Could not express my gratitude.
All that I am, and ever hope to be
I owe it all to thee.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Romans 13:7 Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

To God be the glory, to God be the glory,
To God be the glory for the things he has done.

Philippians 4:20 Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
With his blood, he has saved me.

Revelation 1:4-6 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Fatherto Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
With his power, he has raised me.

1 Corinthians 6:14 Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power.
To God be the glory for the things he has done.
1 Timothy 1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Just let me live my life and
Let it be pleasing Lord to thee

2 Corinthians 5:9 Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.
And if I gain any praise, let it go to Calvary.

Psalm 115:1 Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name give glory because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth.

With his blood, he has saved me.

Ephesians 1:7-8a In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us.
With his power, he has raised me.

Philippians 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;
To God be the glory for the things he has done.
Acts 4:21 When they had threatened them further, they let them go (finding no basis on which to punish them) on account of the people, because they were all glorifying God for what had happened;

Bible Verses for Thank God For Something

Hawk Nelson's "Thank God for Something" by Jon Steingard, Seth Mosley, and Michael Farren | scriptureand.blogspot.com

The song of thanksgiving for today is less conventional, but a lot of fun.  It is basically the same idea as the hymn Count Your Blessings.  It encourages you to be thankful for something in your life no matter what your circumstances are.  Sometimes you just have to identify all the ways that God has blessed you "one by one" to help you "see what God has done."

If you are going through a difficult time and don't know what to be thankful for, start by reading a passage like Ephesians 1:3-14 and thanking God for all of the spiritual blessings He has given us in Christ.  When you meditate on the fact that someone died for you to have eternal life and many other blessings besides, it is hard to remain ungrateful.

Thank God For Something

by Jon Steingard, Seth Mosley, and Michael Farren

Verse 1:

Mama always said to me the very best medicine is gratitude.
It's not what you don't have, but what you do.
I must admit that I forget that life's a gift.
Hey mama, gonna change my attitude.

Colossians 3:15-16 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
1, 2, 3, 4
Count my blessings.
1, 2, 3, 4
Count my blessings.

Chorus:
If you got a lot or a lotta nothing,
Go ahead and thank God for something.
You're gonna see the good if you're good at looking,
So go ahead and thank God for something.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 in everything give thanks; for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus.

Verse 2:
We have a lot or have a little it's really nothing new.
Happiness should never be a slave to revenue.

We got a breakdown, need a way out, living unbound
When we start singing out a new tune

Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
1, 2, 3, 4
Count my blessings.
1, 2, 3, 4
Count my blessings.

Chorus:
If you got a lot or a lotta nothing,
Go ahead and thank God for something.
You're gonna see the good if you're good at looking,
So go ahead and thank God for something.

Ephesians 5:20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;

Bridge:
In the wonder, in the heartache,
In the good times and the mistakes,
No matter what I am going through
I can always say thank you.
When the blessings are in disguise
Let gratitude open my eyes,

Job 5:17 "Behold, how happy is the man whom God reproves, so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. For He inflicts pain, and gives relief; He wounds, and His hands also heal."
Psalm 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word.
2 Corinthians 4:17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,
Hebrews 12:11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.
'Cause I've just been given too much
To do anything but

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
1, 2, 3, 4
Count my blessings.
1, 2, 3, 4
Count my blessings.
